So Hollywood’s finally listening to what I’ve been trying to tell them for years…”make more gangster films”. We haven’t had a good crime drama since Donnie Brasco and now several years later were getting two. Earlier I posted the new trailer for the Shia LeBouf, Tom Hardy period gangster joint LAWLESS and now we’ve got another one filled with a host of old and new stars. Gangster Squad stars Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Ryan Gosling, Giavanni Rabisi, and Josh Brolin as police agents who do anything and everything to stop a blood thirsty criminal from the east (Sean Penn) from planting his flag in Los Angeles. The trailer is heavy and hard hitting and worth the watch oh yeah Emma Stone and some black guy and I think hispanic guy is in it too. Gangster Squad opens in theaters everywhere October 9th.
Based on a series of of LA Times articles called Tales From the Gangster Squad by Paul Lieberman. The story is about Los Angeles in 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and — if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop… except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. Gangster Squad is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.
