Writer Radi Lewis and illustrator Ernesto Vincente have created a feast for lovers of war and science in TECH WATCH. The story follows Isaiah Grey (Founder oF Tech Watch) an unscrupulous scientist with designs on ruling the world. To achieve this goal he travels the globe with his nano soldiers harvesting information from former fellow scientist by any means necessary. Ultimately the knowledge gained will allow him to bring his pet project H.A.R.D.W.A.R.E (Human Automated Robotic Drone with weaponized and renewable energy) to fruition. Not one to just hand vital information over to him he’s met with a plethora of opposition, all of which provides for some fantastic action and interesting insight into the world of Tech Watch.
A Dark science fiction drama, Tech Watch has that G.I. Joe feel to it. The host of characters are all larger than life and wield some spectacular weaponry and robotics. Too soon to tell who the real enemy is in this story seeing as how everyone has some sort of diabolical motive…hence the world we live in, but it’s fun to follow as the story unfolds. Writer Radi Lewis, doesn’t mix words and tends to write for action and back story. Although coming dangerously close to wordiness, Radi does do a good job of focusing on the lead and the effect he’s having on those around him without muddying the arch with meaningless mumbo jumbo that might cause a reader to back off.I imagine later on down the road we’ll see some secondary and third plot lines, but right now I’m good with where the story is going. Ernesto’s illustrations are suitable for this first issue, as it humbly works to establish some of the main players in this game of cat and mouse, but having glanced at the second issue, I can already see dramatic changes occurring in the paneling and design making it easy for me to follow through on a second read. All in all a good story for those who are fans tech, bioweaponry and overall badass-ness!
