After The Last Airbender debacle, I wanted nothing to do with M. Knight, actually after Lady in the Chlorinated Pool, I wanted nothing to do with M. Knight. Then he did The Happening, after which I seriously considered paying someone to walk up to him on the street and punch him in the face, but he does keep trying and because he’s a nerd, I must watch, no matter how much it hurts. After Earth is M. Knight’s latest project starring and produced by Will Smith. Probably a stipulation to get him and his son to star in it. Will does tend to do good in science fiction, so the brother oughta know a little something…right?
One thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.
There’s some strange accents going on all throughout the trailer, but all in all the dang thing looked better to me than the OBLIVION trailer starring Tom Cruise, another one I’ll have to see. After Earth is Directed by M. Knight Shyamalan and stars Will Smith and Jaden Smith. After Earth opens on June 7th, 2013.
