Can this amazing comic book get a friggin break? Yep…according to Heat Vision , Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez‘s amazing story of violence and magic is being picked up by Universal Studios with screenwriters/producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci in place to produce the film.
Whew…I was scared, they were set to write.
Locke & Key tells of three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Massachusetts. They soon discover the house has magical keys that give the bearers a vast array of powers and abilities. However, a devious creature is also after the keys, forcing the family to make a stand against evil.
Kurtzman and Orci have clearly been campaigning for awhile to see this project to fruition. Back in 2011, they shot a respectable pilot that was directed by Mark Romanek , that unfortunately never saw the light of day. Who knows what companies like Universal Studios are thinking when they scoop up the rights to something we fans hold so dear, but I imagine they work a lot like Scrooge McDuck, in that they just want to own it. That way they have the luxury of knowing no one else can touch it. Hopefully this isn’t just another trophy and this picture will get made.
