In the coming month’s, it shouldn’t be a surprise that we will see a plethora of movie trailers all geared toward taking home the statue. There are so many that have come out just this week, that I can’t even keep up. This trailer for The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete is among those with super Oscar potential. Directed by George Tillman Jr (Notorious, Faster) TIDOMP is a brutal coming of age tale in the vein of 1994’s Boaz Yakin film Fresh. Offering an honest look at inner city life, The Inevitable Defeat… stars Skylan Brooks and Ethan Dizon as Mister and Pete, two kids who must use their wits to survive under amazing odds. Jennifer Hudson plays Mister’s mother who’s incarceration leaves her son in a very precarious position. This movie will hopefully astound, surprise and perhaps kickstart a few careers. This trailer is hard-hitting and has definitely got my attention.

During a sweltering summer in New York City, 13-year-old Mister’s (Skylan Brooks) hard-living mother (Jennifer Hudson) is apprehended by the police, leaving the boy and nine-year-old Pete (Ethan Dizon) alone to forage for food while dodging child protective services and the destructive scenarios of the Brooklyn projects. Anthony Mackie, Jordin Sparks, Jeffrey Wright, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje also star in the film which Lionsgate releases in limited theaters October 11th.
