July is going to be one fabulous month, actually the summer of 2014 is going to be busting out all over, but let’s talk about the film that everyone, safely admits, was a respectable homage to the first. In 2011, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), had a stellar showing at the box office due in no small part to amazing word of mouth and Andy Serkis‘s performance as Ceaser. Toward the middle and the end of the film, it eluded to a sequel in the form of a newspaper headline that read “Missing Astronauts…” and that whole virus thing that seemed to be wiping out humanity as the credits rolled…voila Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

In Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, a few humans still exist and Ceaser…well, he’s building a fucking empire in the Redwoods where we last left him. Okay, so I’m kind of tip toeing around the official synopsis so here it is.

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier.  They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Now about these posters, I can only speculate on who’s who. The old films didn’t talk much about Ceaser except in the past tense, so we didn’t get a good grasp of his cohorts. Perhaps the cartoon or the television series did, but I was a bit too young to remember. I am, however, pretty sure that the above picture is Ceaser played by Andy Serkis. There’s a Gorilla, whom we know isn’t the one who sacrificed himself on the Golden Gate bridge, but he’s definitely from that clan, by clan I mean warrior class. That’s all I got. I am bothered by the absence of Orangutan’s in this group though. Whether I know who these guys are or not, doesn’t make a bit of difference. I’m sure their all famous actors, but who they are playing still eludes me. Look, I just thought these would be some nice images to share and to geek out on til the movie arrives in July…so enjoy!
