The last time I saw a trailer this good, by Tim Burton, was his 2003 film, Big Fish starring Ewan McGregor…wait a tick…Big Fish…Big Eyes.
That film, incidentally, gained the most Golden Globe nominations that year without a single win, but that certainly wasn’t for the lack of trying and now, it would seem, Tim has shed himself of that “Depp” weight, for the time being, to give his directorial prowess that much needed enema. Look, I love quirky Tim Burton films, just like anyone else, but let’s be honest, they’ve become long winded and trite. Films, like this new one, is like the biggest cock tease EVER. From the first frame of this trailer it almost takes one’s breath away, cause it’s not typical Tim, but then it is. So, perhaps he sat in his castle and looked around his home and began thinking about what really inspired him to do films in the first place and voila! You see Tim, it’s not that hard, please tell me you were under contractual obligation to put out your last few films and please tell us that obligation is over!
A bit of a rant, now about Big Eyes.
The story stars Amy Adams as artist Margaret Keane and her phenomenal success in the 1950s, and the subsequent legal difficulties she had with her husband (Waltz), who claimed credit for her works in the 1960s.
Just when I thought this Oscar season was going to be a dud here comes this amazing trailer. This is going to be an awesome year.
Big Eyes is directed by the one-and-only filmmaker Tim Burton, director of films including Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows, and Frankenweenie. The script is written by Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski (both of Ed Wood, Man on the Moon, Screwed, Agent Cody Banks, 1408). The Weinstein Company has Burton’s Big Eyes set for release on December 25th, 2014 later this year.
