Did it need to happen? Nah. Will I go see it? Probably. It seems like writer/director Frank Miller, is hellbent on making 2014 his year, with the release of the 300 sequel Rise of an Empire (which he hasn’t even finished the graphic novel for) and now SIN CITY : A Dame to Kill For.

It’s funny, cause when I think back to that evening at Pleasure Island AMC Theaters with my bestfriend Damion and watching Goodfellas, all I remember was how violent the film was and not being able to wrap my mind around it. I attribute that film as being “thee” film that broke my “Rated R” cherry.

Back in 2011 Ryan Gosling did an amazing film with co star Michelle William’s and director Derek Cianfrance called Blue Valentine. It was a quiet little flick, but the emotion in it was deafening. The performances by all were Oscar worthy so I’m glad they’ve teamed up together again on The Place Beyond the Pines.

Andrew Dominik‘s film adaptation of “Cogan’s Trade” is set in the waning days of the George W. Bush administration, against the Hurricane Katrina ravaged back streets of Louisiana. The opening title sequence is a series of seemingly random, jarring images and sounds reminiscent of films from the 70s. It’s two parts brilliant, one part WTF
